Bed & Breakfast in the Scottish Borders 

Nestled between the gentle rolling hills and dramatic coastline of the beautiful Scottish Borders, in the picturesque little village of Burnmouth, we hope you will be delighted to discover Creel Cottage By The Sea Bed & Breakfast.

Located just off the A1, between Berwick upon Tweed and Eyemouth, Burnmouth is the first, or last, village and harbour on the magnificent East Coast of Scotland. We  offer you the warmest of welcomes to Scotland or a Haste ye Back if you are heading over the Border.  We now have our own EV charging facilities for our guests and visitors to the village so can offer convenient charging at any time.

We offer self contained Bed and Breakfast for up to five people in two spacious bedrooms with a luxurious bathroom. Conveniently situated just a short distance from the A1 and with direct access to one of the most spectacular sections of the Coastal Path.

We have excellent facilities for cyclists offering secure bike storage, cleaning and repair equipment as well as excellent washing and drying facilities, which are also much appreciated by our guests walking the Coastal Path.

We are always delighted to host  guests attending weddings or other functions at one of the spectacular venues in the area and, whenever possible, to offer flexible check in/check out times to suite.

Increasingly visitors to events such as the Edinburgh Fringe are finding it very difficult to find accommodation and are pleased to realise that we are near to two mainline stations offering a scenic journey right into the centre of Edinburgh in just 45 minutes.

 ‘Scotland Starts Here’ and we want all of our guests to experience as much of this beautiful and exciting area as they can, whether they are here for one night or lucky enough to be here for longer

About Us

About Us

We were so lucky to discover Burnmouth and retire here in 2011. We love living here at Creel Cottage which was built in the 1950s for a local fisherman’s family. In the years we’ve been here we have updated it whilst still retaining the 1950s charm that first attracted us.  We have had the bug of renovating houses since we were newlyweds and retirement certainly didn’t curb our enthusiasm.

It’s a beautiful area to live especially as Ian likes walking and cycling and I love beach walks.  We have been hosting family and friends for years and have always enjoyed welcoming guests into our home. In 2021 we decided that we would make some final refinements to the house and start welcoming paying guests too. Mindful of the conditions imposed by the pandemic we created a delightful suite of self contained bed and breakfast accommodation with it’s own separate entrance.

We are delighted with the result – and our guests have been too!

Creel Cottage By The Sea Bed & Breakfast is one of the last stops if you’re leaving Scotland or the first if arriving!  Perfect for a stop off in the Borders but there is so much to do nearby it’s worth staying a while.

We have a choice of the Double Room with private bathroom or the Triple Room with private bathroom.  These two rooms can be rented together for larger groups as a  Family Suite sharing the bathroom.

Please take note of the payment conditions for the Triple Room and that dogs are not allowed in this room.

A luxury continental breakfast is included.

Located in Upper Burnmouth, Creel Cottage B&B is ideally situated for cyclists, walkers or those just stopping off on their journey North or South on the A1.

If you are lucky enough to be spending longer exploring the towns and villages either side of the border, there is a list of things to do in our Plan your Visit section.

We have lived here since 2011 and love to share our experience and knowledge of this beautiful, unspoilt area of the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.

    This has to be one of the best B & B we have ever stayed in. The generosity of Lynne and Ian was incredible. The bed was so comfortable and spacious, beautiful modern bathroom with a great shower. Breakfast was help yourself from a fridge so well stocked with beautiful fresh fruit, yoghurts, fruit juice. Also there was a big selection of cereals, pork pies, cheese, crackers, and plenty more. And then there were the warm croissants delivered to our door in the morning. It is definitely somewhere I would return to if I wanted to stay in the area.

    Lynne and Ian were extremely welcoming hosts. The rooms were very attractive, the bed comfortable and the food and drink provided exceptional. It was refreshing to have provision for breakfast in our rooms, no cooked breakfast but a plentiful supply of much healthier options.

    We stayed for one night to break up our journey to Aberdeenshire. Lynne and Ian made us feel very welcome in their lovely B&B. Our bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean, luxurious and really comfortable. Breakfast was great - lots of choice and very fresh. Will definitely be staying again and can highly recommend.

    We had a fabulous stay at Creel Cottage with our friends over a long weekend. Rooms/bathroom were of a high standard and extremely comfortable with access to the b/b separate from the main house.A fresh breakfast basket was delivered every morning by our friendly hosts Lynne and Ian.The house is situated just off the A1 and is a super base for those who wish to explore Berwick and the surrounding area.Will definitely be returning and look forward to visiting more of what this area has to offer.

    I stayed with these lovely hosts Lynne and Ian a few days ago and had such a nice time! The house is perfectly situated right next to the coastal path and near the A1, it's well connected with Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the North so it's perfect for hikers/cyclists/backpackers/drivers etc! The room itself is immaculate to covid standards, cosy and comes with all the amenities!

    A delightful few days in a beautiful and exceptionally well equipped cottage. An opportunity for family members from North, South and East to get together in person after a long time relying on the wonders of technology.

  • What a Wonderful Home! We all enjoyed ourselves immensely in your home which is equipped with everything you could ask for!
    We went to Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses. Also enjoyed three rounds of golf and it was great to come back and chill out.

    The garden was amazing and the views were great.

    "Ohhh this is such a nice place" was my mother's repeated reaction during our weekend Spring break; other members of the family were equally impressed. A lot of hard work had gone into preparing the accomodation from the seaside theme to investment in furniture and fixtures, indoors and out. It is conveniently located close to the A1 and Berwick-upon-Tweed (including main line station), tourist treasures of the area, and has views front and rear to ponder over. Key to its success is a series of surprise features, the major ones set the tone but there were other nice touches that conveyed the impression that the owners had expended many hours of consideration. We will certainly be back.
